This rare world map resulted from the collaboration of Vincenzo Coronelli and the Frenchman Jean-Nicolas du Tralage, also known as De Tillemont. Eight small maps surround the two main hemispheres. The geographical features generally follow those of Coronelli's globe of 1688. California is shown as an Island with a huge Detroit d'Anian separating it from Terre de Jesso off the coast of Asia. There is considerable detail with notations in the South Pacific including the appearance of the Solomon Islands. Remnants of the coastline of Terres Australes exist including the label Terre des Perroquets just south of Africa. The map was published by Jean Baptiste Nolin, originally in 1690. It was revised in the second state (this example) changing the coat of arms and dedication to that of Louis Philippeaux de Pontchartrin, Minister of Finance. Noted by Shirley as rare.
