Twelve-inch table globe by the first American globe maker, made only two years after Loring's first globe. 12 copper engraved and hand colored gores and two polar calottes. The calottes are engraved with hours rings in both directions, the equator is graduated in degrees, hours and minutes, the anti-meridian is graduated in degrees while the elliptic is in days of the month and the Zodiac. The tracks of numerous explorers are shown, including Cook, de la Perouse, Vancouver, etc. Good detail of rivers, mountains, deserts and more. The horizon ring is hand colored and features degrees, compass directions, names and symbols for the houses of the Zodiac. Original brass meridian circle and turned holder. The globe is raised on the original mahogany four turned legs with stretcher.
