27 Carte Reduite d'apres celle de Laperouse 1797 Jean Francois Galoup, Comte La Perouse World 20.5" x 16.8" $100.00 Nice world map on Mercator's Projection with a surprising amount of detail. Similar to the key map of La Perouse's explorations showing his significant world voyage in 1785 - 88. After exploring a portion of North America's northwest coast, the ill-fated expedition reached Australia in January, 1788. Leaving just a month later, they were never heard from again. While in Kamchatka La Pérouse gave the journals and charts to Capt. De Lesseps with instructions for him to return to France overland through Siberia and Russia. These items arrived in Paris over a year later where La Perouse's important observations and maps were first published in 1797 in four volumes and an atlas.
