This magnificent chart depicts the southern sky centered on the south ecliptic pole. The stars and constellations are based on the work of Hevelius, Bayer, and Halley. Several of the non-Ptolemaic constellations include Columba, La Croce (Crux), Rhombus (now known as Reticulum), and the twelve invented by Keyser and de Houtman. The stars are differentiated in six degrees of magnitude that are identified in a legend at bottom left, and tables flank the chart giving details on each constellation. The coat of arms of the Republic of Venice also adorns the chart.

Condition Description: A dark impression with minor offsetting, very light scattered foxing, and a short printer's crease adjacent to the centerfold at bottom. There are old tape stains in the top corners of the sheet, not affecting the image.
