This is the western sheet of this historical two-sheet map illustrating the Roman Empire in the year 400 AD. It covers all of western Europe and a large portion of northern Africa. The map is derived from Delisle's map of 1705 and is flanked by an inset showing the Western Hemisphere. It is filled with extensive notations, including one indicates that a gold coin stamped with the effigy of Augustus Caesar was found in an American gold mine, confirming the probability that the Roman penetrated as far as the New World.
