This is a strikingly graphic map of the Kingdom of Sicily, and the first plate to appear in Mercator's Atlas. The map is filled with topography and towns, including Palermo, Syracuse, Messina, as well as the erupting Mt. Aetna. The map is decorated with a strapwork cartouche and a moire patterned sea. Latin text on verso.

A bright and clean example with attractive color. There is a stain along the edge of the sheet at left and a crease in bottom left corner.
