Fine, small map of Baffin and Hudson bays with Cumberland Island named in Baffin Bay. The map names the wintering ports of explorers James in 1631 and Buttons in 1612. It also uses the name Bylot's Bay instead of Baffin Bay. Robert Bylot was one of the mates on the ill-fated voyage of Henry Hudson in 1611, and he was one of the eight mutineers who arrived safely in England from that voyage. Bylot returned to the Arctic with Button in 1613, and as captain of his own ship in 1615-16. Baffin Bay was named after the pilot of Bylot's ship on that voyage. Captain Bylot does have Bylot Island named after him. Second state, with attribution to Owen's Magazine of Magazines erased from top margin.
Sharp impression with attractive color. Some light offsetting in map and binder's trim in bottom margin, well removed from map. Hinge remnants in top, blank margin.
