473. The True Briton, London, July 19, 1723. Single sheet. Bkpg: "…it has been insinuated…that the Paper-Money current in South-Carolina, is made so by several Acts of the assembly of that Province, ratified…which ratification is generally understood to be by the Lords Proprietors of the said Province, But that insinuation is groundless…" (A+) $40

475. The Boston Chronicle, May 23-30, 1768. Inside has a list of men chosen counselors for the General Court, lists John Hancock among others. Letter to John Dickinson concerning taxation & political concerns. Through a printing error there is some light overprinting on most pages, but does not interfere to much in the reading, otherwise good. (C) $55

476. Columbian Centinel, Boston, Sept. 21, 1791. Ftpg report on total destruction of the Admiralty of Amsterdam by fire. Inside page: Insurrection of the Negroes in the French West Indies. Much more and many adverts, some with early graphics. (B) $25

477. Ballou’s Pictorial, Boston, Sept. 1, 1855. Beautiful, large engraved masthead. Several woodblock illustrations including a full page of butterflies, moths and other entomological creatures. Illustrated article on Cohasset, Mass. A little toning. (B) $15

478. The Salem Gazette, Mass., Sept 23, 1796. Ftpg filled with military reports from Europe: "Important Intelligence! - Manheim - Hermandstadt in Hungary - Russian Troops." Inside page: "Army of Italy - Buonaparte, to the Executive Directory. Much more. (B) $25

479. Niles’ Weekly Register, Baltimore, May 30, 1829. Ftpg: "State of the Currency" is an early and long discussion of standardizing the currency and banking in the US. Reports of slaves taken for trade and of British capture of several slave ships. Foreign news and reports, much more. Foxed. 16 pp. (B) $20

480. The New-York Times, Aug. 23, 1861. Civil war fills page one: "Startling Reports from the Upper Potomac" "The Rebels Reoccupying Harper’s Ferry" "Ben McCulloch Revives and issues a Proclamation" "Suppression of Secession Newspapers." Much more. (A+) $35

481. Daily Richmond Examiner, February 9, 1863. Excellent Civil War content. News of the Blockade of Charleston; Siege of Vicksburg, Fort Donelson; "Negro Army" and salve runaway ads. Front-page only. Overall toned with fold separations repaired with tissue. Still a significant Confederate issue. (B) $125

482. The Houston Tri-Weekly, Texas, June 26, 1865. Long ftpg. article: "Gerrit Smith on the Treatment of Rebels" pg. 2 "The Lions & the Lambs Lie Down Together" & more on the end of the war. Page 2 mend, tear & address label in masthead, some spine wear. (B) $45

483. Scientific American, July 13, 1867 and Aug. 17 & Sept. 14, 1878. Three issues filled with engravings of inventions and innovations. The later has a full page cover of the Façade of the Netherlands at the Paris Exhibition. All with decorative masthead. Lot of three. (A+) $30

484. Harper’s Bazaar, Jan. 22, 1870 and July 24, 1875. Pair of issues filled with wood engravings. Covers have large engravings, one of Paris fashions, the other "Holiday Charities" is a young woman and her dog walking through snow with food in a basket. The pair. 485. Harper’s Weekly, Journal of Civilization, New York, Nov. 2, 1872 and Nov. 14, 1874. Decorative masthead. Filled with engravings including two 1/2 pg of Black interest. Double page by T. Nast cartoon related to the peace negotiations by the Geneva Congress. Another double "The Battle of Trafalgar" is a dynamic sea battle with many war ships. (A) $35

486. Harper’s Weekly, Journal of Civilization, New York, June 30, 1877. Decorative masthead. Filled with wood engravings. Full page on cover feature world leaders cutting up a map of the eastern hemisphere. Frenzeny image of a camel in Nevada. Double page of "Britannia Lionizing Ulysses." Much more and many adverts. 487. The Daily Humboldt Times, Eureka, Calif., Sept. 10, 1876. Pg 2 with a report headed: "A Gang of Robbers" datelined St. Paul, beginning: "Fourteen citizens pursued the Northfield robbers and overtook them Thursday in a ravine…shots were exchanged...the general impression seems to be that the robbers are members of the famous James & Younger gangs…Gov. Pillsbury has offered a reward of $1500 for the capture of the robbers…", plus more. Another article headed: "Sitting Bull Not Dead", with particulars. (A) $100

488. Harper’s Weekly, New York, March 6, 1880 and Nov. 1, 1884. Full page front cover is General Grant riding in the Carnival in Havana. Other engravings: Village and Baths of San Diego, fine full-page by Henry Stull is of 7 American Race-Horses, great A.B. Frost "A Day’s Fishing on the Cholera Banks." Much more. (A) $30

490. Life, New York, March 15, 1883. An interesting and early women’s magazine. Political cartoon lampoons the church’s efforts at keeping women from the pulpit. Original owner signed above masthead in ink, else near mint. (A+) Illustrated below. $20
