The following lots are from the first Latin or first German edition of Schadel’s Nuremberg Chronicle, printed in 1493. This is one of the most important, early world histories, from the Creation to the end of the 15th century. Each leaf contains woodblock scenes, views, portraits and miscellaneous illustrations. They are fine examples of early woodblcok illustration and printing.

423. Incunabula leaf, Paraldus, Summa de Viciis, Cologne, [1479]. 7.5 x 11". From the prized incunabula period of the earliest printing in the western world, this leaf is a handsome imprint of the press of one of the German masters. With hand painted rubication. (A+) $90

424. Incunabula leaf, Nicolaus Perrotus, Cornucopiae: sive Comentarios Linguae Latinae (The Horn of Plenty, or Commentaries on the Latin Language), Venice, [1490]. 8 x 11". Attractive leaf with Roman Letter type. Minor damp stain. (A) $60

425. Printed leaf (Folio CLXXXVII), Rancois Renault, Codex Justinianus…, Paris, [1532]. 5 x 7.5". A handsome Parisian printed leaf of the great legal code of A.D. 529, which standardized and corrected the confusing welter of laws that had accumulated since Roman times. Fine example of the new technology of two color printing (red & black) with displaced the hand painted titles and initials of the Incunabula period. (A)    Click image for full size.  $50

426. Printed leaves (Set of three leaves), Hugo of Porto, Lyons, France, [1548]. 12 x 17". Three large early printed leaves, all from anti-Roman works. Hugo of Porto was a victim of religious persecution in his native Porto, and fled to Lyons where he printed anti-Roman works such as these. One has very light foxing, others fine. (A) $125

427. Printed leaf (De ordinatione fummi Pontificis), M. Giunta, Pontificale Romanum ad Omnes …, Venice, [1582]. 10 x 14". Roman letter Latin text arranged in double columns within printed rules. Printed red & black. From treatise on official ceremonies of the Holy See. (A+) $50

428. Act of Parliament, 1729. 7.2 x 11.2". The act deals with the more efficient collection of taxes for the support of the Royal Hospital at Greenwich. Front page includes a wood engraving of the royal coat of arms. (A+) $60

429. Calligraphy (Set of 6 sheets), George Bickham, London, 1739. 10 x 16". (BW) Six fine examples of calligraphy all related to business. Each is either an explanation of a specific document, I.e., Bill of Exchange, or an example of a type of business transaction. All include beautiful script and two include a excellent graphic illustration. Would be a fine set framed. Minor damp stain in margins. (A)  Click image for full size.   $250-300

430. Indenture, 1727. 19.2 x 15.5". Very attractive British indenture with graceful calligraphy including a coat of arms. Includes red wax seal of Perce Miles and three tax stamps. Pressed and ready for framing. Red smudge from seal, else fine. (A) $160

431. Indenture, 1785. 14 x 8". Small vellum document with three tax stamps detailing a land transfer in Durham county, England. Pressed and ready for framing. (A) $80

432. Indentures (Pair of deeds), 1840-3. Pair of Pennsylvania legal documents, both for the sale of land in Pennsylvania. One is on vellum and dated 1843 and the other, dated 1840 is on quality paper. Both folded. (B) $150

433. Civil War Documents, 1862-4. Three documents all having to do with the issuance of equipment or railroad transport. All very fine condition. (A+) $125

434. Civil War Document, (Muster Roll), 1864. 30 x 20". Muster roll of the 158th New York Volunteers. Signed by Union Col. James Jourdan; later breveted to Major General. With photocopy of the regimental history and service record of Jourdan. Overall toning and light foxing. Fold separations, repaired with archival tape. Ink is still very legible. (B) $125

435. Civil War Documents, 1864. Three related military documents signed by Union officer Capt. Robert Staunton, Quartermaster. All relate to issuance of ammunitions. (A+) $125

436. Stock Certificates (Desert Gold Recovery Company), 1910. 11 x 8". (PC) Beautifully engraved mining stock certificates with three vignettes showing the mine and deep rock miners working. Matched set of three certificates (171, 173, 174) all issued to members of the Linder family, bankers from Illinois. Short split at bottom in each. (A)    Click image for full size.  $50-60

437. Bonds (Set of German bonds), 1923. 8.2 x 11.2". (PC) Set of three bonds from the inflationary period in Germany. Three different denominations with all coupons present. (A+) $50

438. Bonds (Set of foreign bonds), . Set of eight foreign bonds dated from 1912-1960 with 7 being pre-WWII. Some unusual pieces including ones from Romania & Yugoslavia, (A) $80

439. Stock Certificates (Set of Railroad stocks), 1937-68. 12 x 8". (PC) Set of eight different railroad stock certificates. All with fine vignettes and cancellation stamps. (A)   Click image for full size.  $80
