Vellum leaf from a Breviary written in Flanders, probably Bruges, by Dominican or Franciscan monks, who traveled throughout Europe. Every breviary begins with a Psalter and this leaf is from this section. The most striking feature of this leaf is the large, full length, initials on both sides that are painted in mauve, blue and gold leaf. The text is from Psalms 126, 127 and 128.

Very decorative small leaf from a French breviary written on fine vellum. The text is in a single column in black ink with red rubrics. Two delicately painted illuminated initials adorn each side. The illuminations are in several colors on a background of polished gold leaf. In the margins on both sides are flowers and leaves on very thin tendrils in gold, blue and red.

This vellum leaf is from a Book of Hours written in Normandy, for the use of Coutances. It was once owned by Seigneur Richard du Mesnildot, Provost Royal of Coutances in 1489. The leaf is embellished on verso with an illuminated initial with decoration extending into the margin, in red, blue, white and burnished gold leaf. The text is from the Hours of the Virgin.
