This impressive, comprehensive, and complete atlas contains 112 double-page maps with blank versos. The maps have been tipped in to the atlas, which is quite uncommon for an atlas from this time period. Bartholomew puts a particular emphasis on thematic mapping including world maps focused on population, vegetation, climate and commerce. Thematic maps are also presented for Europe and the British Isles. In addition to the numerous political maps of the rest of the world, there is a nice city plan of London, plans of towns in England and Scotland, and a sheet focused on major American cities. The maps are followed by a 259 page index naming over 200,000 locations. Prepared by the Edinburgh Geographical Institute and published by The Times, Printing House Square in London. Elephant folio, hardbound in red cloth over boards with gilt title on front cover and spine.
