This is an incredibly detailed map of the northeastern part of the Dutch colony of Surinam. There are hundreds of landowners named with their plantations located along the major rivers and creeks. On the eastern bank of the Surinam River, south of the capital Paramaribo, is an early Jewish settlement named Ioods Dorp en Sinagoge (Jews Town and Synagogue), known now as Joden Savanna or Jewish Savanna. In the seventeenth century persecuted Jews could live in Suriname in safety.
