A delightful book that boasts a collection of more than 70 prints reproduced from this admired artist's portfolio of images from the American West. The prints are all black and white, except for the double-page centerpiece, "Caught in the Circle: the last stand of three troopers and a scout overtaken by a band of hostile Indians," a vivid scene printed by a three color process. Each image is accompanied by verses of dramatic prose by Owen Wister. An example from a scene depicting a gunfight in a saloon:

"LIVE AND LET DIE!
The pit is come from underground,
Satan himself is out of breath;
He links the marksman to his mark
With the hyphen-flash of death."

The book is hardbound in pictorial paper covered boards with beige cloth spine. Published by P.F. Collier & Son, New York.
