Thoroughly detailed and informative first edition gazetteer of the United States and North America with sections devoted to Canada, Mexico, Guatemala and British America, but concentrating on the states and territories of the U.S. This edition features two attractive hand colored maps, United States and North America. The U.S. map shows the country extending west to include a large Arkansas Territory, and a portion of Missouri Territory. An unusual configuration of Michigan shows the territory in possession of eastern Wisconsin in addition to the Upper Peninsula. The North American map shows the United States extending well into Canada in the Northwest, here named N. Caledonia. Texas is named, but still in the possession of Mexico. Maps both measure 10 x 8". The book is nicely illustrated with dozens of woodcut engravings and also includes numerous tables and charts. 8vo with 471 pages, including an exhaustive 300 page geographical dictionary. Hardbound in original brown leather with gilt title and decorative flourishes on spine.
