The first is a fine plan of the fortified city and surrounding countryside with excellent detail of the extensive fortifications, individual buildings, and the surrounding cultivated fields. The plan locates "The old citadel designed for a new town", numerous forts, roads, soundings and the low water mark. In the Strand is the road to "Furnes and Ostend at low water," the Risband, an ancient, demolished fort, and the "Boom." Gentlemen's Magazine, 1763, 7.5" x 11.5". Dark impression on sheet with large watermark. Light toning at left (B+). Ref: Jolly GENT-167.

The second is a copper engraved map of the bay and city of Toulon with surrounding fortifications, castles and towns. A lovely compass rose shows an upside-down orientation of the map. The plan has a simple block title cartouche. Gentlemen's Magazine, 1759, 8.0" x 10.5". Scattered foxing, two short splits on a fold and chipping in upper margin. Three small areas of surface mildew (C). Ref: Jolly GENT-127.

The third is a nice chart of Agde near the towns of Marseillan and Bessan, and the adjacent coastline of southern France along the Gulf of Lion. Fine engraving shows the Mountain of Agde and the Basin de Thau, here called St. Martin's Pond; also locates la Conque, the Tower, Sluce of Bagnas, the Canal Royal, St. Basile's, and the Notre Dame div Grau. Offshore is the Isle and Fort de Brescou, which appears to be the location of today's Sete. Individual fields, trails and wagon roads are also illustrated Engraved by F.A. Aveline and published by John Hinton, New Geographical Dictionary, 1760, 10.8" x 7.8". On fine hand laid paper with full margins. Slight hint of toning or foxing (B+).
