Beautiful Dutch derivative of Sanson's smaller version of Le Canada, ou Nouvelle France, &c…, engraved by Anthony de Winter. The Great Lakes are based on Jesuit sources with Lake Superior and Lake Michigan (Lac des Puans) open-ended in the west. The map details the area from Virginia to Labrador with the British colonies confined along the eastern seaboard with nice detail of the St. Lawrence River. The map is filled with Indian tribal names and locations, again based on Jesuit information, and graced with an elegantly designed cartouche.

A superb impression. The side margins have a close binder's trim, with a small loss of neatline.
