This is a depiction of British General John Oglethorpe's first unsuccessful expedition against the Spanish at St. Augustine. The bird's-eye view depicts the Matanza River, the North and South Channel and warships in the foreground. A lengthy key and explanatory notes fill the bottom third of map. General Oglethorpe was the founder of the American colony of Georgia situated as a buffer colony between Spanish Florida and South Carolina. Size given includes the key and text.

Early, fine impression on thick hand-laid paper with a large watermark. Close trim at right binding trim, as issued. Still very good.
