The following lots are large (14 x 20") sheets of vellum with beautifully written manuscript, four-line music. Each is written on both sides in brown and red ink, with large red and blue capitals. They are from a 14th century Catholic Graduale, sung from the altar steps.

The following lots are manuscript leaves from an early 15th century Book of Hours. Written in 13-line Gothic Textura script, in brown and red ink. The illuminations includes several large capital letters and designs in gold-leaf, blue, red and white ink. Each is on a 6 x 4.5" sheet of vellum in excellent condition. Very scarce and fascinating incunabula.

The following lots are from the first, German or Latin, edition of Schadel’s Nuremberg Chronicle, printed in 1493. This is one of the most important early world histories, covering from the Creation to the end of the 15th century. Each leaf (approximately 11 x 16") contains woodblock scenes, views, portraits and miscellaneous illustrations. They are very scarce, excellent examples of early woodblock illustration and printing.

 The following two lots are from a very scarce, early printing of Missale…Archiepiscopatus Pragensis Ecclesiae,Venice, [1507]. Each leaf measures 7.5 x 12" and is printed on both sides in red and black ink.

The following three lots are beautiful and unusual leaves from Horae B.V.M. Secundumusum Romanvorn. This Book of Hours was printed in Paris in 1526 by Hordouyn. Each vellum leaf (4.5 x 7") contains Gothic textura type with illuminated capitals in red, blue and gold and are printed on both sides. The text is surrounded by elaborate scenes, which are iron engravings. Printed vellum Book of Hours leaves are very scarce, as they were only produced between 1496 and 1530.

85-465.jpg (21830 bytes)465. Manuscript Estate Inventory, Missouri Territory, 1808. 15 x 12.2". Early American, SLAVE related document. Details the property of a Mr. Rogers and lists blankets, log chains, axes, books, livestock, promissory notes, and "One Negro man by the name of Abraham - 20 years old - $550, and One Negro Woman named Sasy - 40 years old - $280" Folded to make 4 pages with several signatures; Morris James, Wm. Patterson, P. Pronenchine, and Archibald Gamble. Wax and paper seal of St. Louis County. Light even toning with clearly legible ink. (A)  Click image for full size. $300-350
