159. Mexico (Hispaniae Novae Nova Descriptio), Hondius, Amsterdam, ca. 1613. 19 x 13.7". (FC) Splendid copper engraved map of the western coastal regions of Mexico. Mexico City is located on the banks of a large lake below the large, elaborate strapwork title cartouche. Several gold and silver mines are located in the central region. In the Pacific Ocean sails a Spanish galleon and a fanciful sea monster. Fine old color including a decorative capital in the text on verso. Minor overall toning. (A+)   $800-900

Bowen, Gentleman’s Magazine, London, [1740]. 6.5 x 5.4". (BW) Charming little map of the city and islands. Large compass rose and rhumb lines. Inset describes how the Flotilla, or Little Fleet sails to this port from Cadiz annually. Hand laid paper. Short tear at binding side just touching neatline. (B)Click image for full size.  $60

162. Central America and the West Indies (Carte des Iles Antilles ou Indes Occidentales, Du Golfe Du Mexique et d’une partie des pays Adjacents), A.H. Brue, Paris, 1825. 20 x 14". (OC) Finely engraved map with excellent detail. Keyboard style border with color code showing European possessions and independent nations. Royal seal in title. On a large sheet of very fine paper. Very minor damp stain in margin. (A) $250

163. Bermuda (Mappa Aestiuarum Insularum, alias Barmudas…), Hondius/Jansson, Amsterdam, [1641]. 20.5 x 15.5". (FC) Excellent example of this famous map based on the survey made by John Norwood of the Bermuda Company in 1618. The place names and list of proprietors given below the map are the original members of the Bermuda Company. Richly decorated with rhumb lines, strapwork title and scale of miles cartouches, a compass rose, and coats of arms Very fine original color. $1,750 reserve. 164. Caribbean (A Map of the Caribbee Islands; Shewing which belong to England, France, Dutch & Danes…), Thomas Jeffreys, Gentleman’s Magazine, London, 1756. 8 x 13". (BW) Decorative cartouche. Extends from the Virgin Islands south to Trinidad, including Barbados. Shows cities, capes, harbors, bays and shoals, but has no topo detail within islands. GENT-98. Later impression, hand laid paper. Tear at binding side, expertly repaired. Binding trimming a little rough, still a nice map. (B) $60

Compass rose. On hand laid paper. Marginal tear not affecting image, close at bottom with stitching holes near neatline. GENT-158. (A) Illustrated above. $60

166. Martinique (Colonies Francaise Martinique. Amerique du Sud), Victor Levasseur, Atlas National Illustre, Paris, [1849]. 17 x 11". (OC) Very detailed and finely engraved map of the island. With beautifully rendered uncolored engraved scenes surrounding the map. Strong, crisp impression with bright outline color. Full margins, with a few marginal spots. A most decorative sheet. 167. Cuba (New Rail Road and Atlas Map of Cuba), Geo. Cram, Illustrated Family Atlas, Chicago, [1882]. 20 x 12". (FC) First edition in original color. Shows extensive railroad network Good detail in ocean of the Bahamas and southern Florida. (A) Click image for full size.   $60

168. Central and South America (Nova Isthmi Americani qui et Panamiensis item Dariensis Tabula [together with] Grand Theatre de la Guerre en Amerique…), Ottens, Grand Theatre de la Guerre en Amerique, Amsterdam, ca. 1760. 20.5 x 17.2". Pair of copper engraved maps. First is black & white and covers Central America including the eastern part of Nicaragua through Panama and includes the northern part of South America. Across the top of the sheet are Jamaica, and part of Haiti. Crisp, bright impression. Some damage in margins with one tiny tear into border. The second map is the title page of the atlas. It is colored in outline and depicts the Atlantic Ocean with just a bit of the Puerto Rician coastline at bottom. The top of the sheet includes 3 large insets of Harbor of Porto Bello; Plan de la Baye de Carthagnena; and Nouvelle Carte de l’Isle de Curacao. Each inset has a small compass rose and the large map has a very large compass rose. Minor foxing and short fold splits. (B) $400

169. Central and South America (Terra Firma et Novum Regnum Granatense et Popayan), Jansson, Amsterdam, ca. 1647. 19.2 x 15". (FC) Attractive map of the Isthmus of Panama and northwestern South America including most present day Columbia and part of Venezuela. Richly decorated with two elegant compass roses and two cartouches all fully colored. Professionally repaired split on fold and marginal tear, else very clean & fine. 170. South America (Terre-Ferme Perou, Bresil Pays de l’Amazone {together with] Paraguay, Chili, Terre Magellan), de Vaugondy, Nouvel Atlas Portatif, Paris, [1778]. 11 x 9.5". (OC) Lovely pair of copper engraved maps with good detail in most areas. Present day southern Argentina is called Terre Magellanique and shows no settlement or detail. Both maps have decorative title cartouches and good coloring. Faint damp stain in margins, just affecting border of one map, else very good. (B) $100

171. South America (Map of the European Settlements in South America), T. Kitchen, London, 1783. 13.2 x 17.5". (BW) Detailed copper engraving which is typical of Kitchen’s maps. Delicately engraved title cartouche. Trimming to 1/8" on binding side, and folded as issued. Toned with some offsetting, else very good. (B) $125

175. South America, central (Carte Du Bresil et D’une Partie Des Pays Adjacents, Redigee), A.H. Brue, Paris, 1826. 18 x 19.5". (OC) Finely engraved map with exquisite detail throughout. The western part is on a separate folding sheet which is pasted onto the map, complete with the keyboard style border. A very attractive map on heavy quality paper. (A) $75

176. South America, southern (Tabula Magellanica, Quatierrae del Fuego), Jansson, Amsterdam, c. 1652. 20 x 15". (FC) Splendidly decorative map of the southern tip of So. America. Cartouches with figures, galleons, compass roses, rhumb lines, natives & wildlife. Couple old creases, tiny marginal tear, expertly repaired. (A) $900-950
