23. Western Hemisphere (LAmerique, Meridionale et Septentrionale), N. de Fer, LAtlas curieux ou le Monde, Paris, 1700. 13.2 x 8.7". (OC) Very decorative map with CALIFORNIA AS AN ISLAND. First state of this interesting map. The island of California has an indented northern coast with Agubela de Cato just to the north of the island. Three cartouches and a compass rose embellish the map. (A+) Click on thumbnail for full-sized image. $ 750-800
24. Western Hemisphere (America), Lasor a Varea, Universus Terrarum Orbis, [1713]. 6.7 x 5.2". (BW) Copper engraved map of the Americas in the Italian style with stipple engraved oceans. Geography based on Ortelius with the South American bulge. Light, but still good impression. Very old re-margin on right with a bit of facsimile of neatline and 2 very tiny puncture holes, with no loss of image. (B) $ 275
25. Western Hemisphere (Americae Mappa Generalis), Homann Heirs, Nuremberg, 1746. 21 x 18.2". (FC) Very decorative 18th century map of the Americas. Considerable detail even in the interiors. There is no coastline above the peninsular California. Full color denoting the European possessions. Very large pictorial cartouche (uncolored) with two erupting volcanoes, native Americans, birds and what appears to be a pot of gold. Light impression in cartouche, else fine with very attractive original color. (A) $675 reserve. Click thumbnail to see full image. $ 800-900
26. Western Hemisphere (LAmerique divisee Par Grands Etats), Janvier, Paris, 1762. 17.5 x 12". (OC) Copper engraved map with the most prominent feature being the large Sea of the West dominating the northwest coast of North America. There is a landmass approximating the shape of Alaska.
