The following lots are from the first Latin or first German edition of Schadel’s Nuremberg Chronicle, printed in 1493. This is one of the most important, early world histories, from the Creation to the end of the 15th century. Each leaf contains woodblock scenes, views, portraits and miscellaneous illustrations. They are fine examples of early woodblcok illustration and printing.

The following lots are very scarce vellum leaves from Horea B.V.M. Secundumusum Romanvorn, published in Paris in 1526. The distinguishing feature of these fine leaves is that they are surrounded by beautiful iron engravings. This printing method was only produced between 1496 and 1530. Each leaf is also illuminated with red, blue and gold manuscript initials with printing and illumination on both sides. They measure 4.5 x 7".

364. Book of Hours leaf. Nice engravings including one of an angel and another which appears to be a scene from Hell. Illuminated initials on one side only. (A+) $ 175

365. Book of Hours leaf. A very unusual example with the engravings in full original color on both sides. (A+) $ 225

366. Printed leaf (Folio ciii), Guillaume Durand, Rationale Divinorum Officiorum, Nuremberg, [1481]. 7.5 x 10.7". Fine example of incunabula with one hand-painted initial heading and rubrication throughout. This is from a work of the French canonist concerning the meaning of the Divine Offices. (A+) $ 100

367. Printed leaves, Nicolaus Perrotus, Cornucopiae: sive Commentarios Linguae Latinae, Venice, [1490]. 7.5 x 10.5". (BW) Pair of nice leaves from the classical work on the Latin Language. Attractive Roman Letter type. A fine example of Venitian printing. (A+) $ 75

369. Printed leaf, Francois Renault, Codex Iustinianus…, Paris, [1532]. 5.5 x 7". (BW) (The Code of Justinian, According to the Ancient Authorities). This leaf is from the great legal code of A.D. 529, which standardized and corrected the confusing welter of laws that had accumulated during Roman times. Printed in black and red ink. Toned with worm track in margin. (A) $ 50

370. Printed leaf, Francois Renault, Pandectarum, seu Disgestorum Juris Civilis…, Paris, [1539]. 5.5 x 7". (BW) Original leaf from A Compilation, or Digest, of Civil Law. Printed in black ink with red ink in the titles and Uncial capital letters. Light toning. (A) $ 60

371. Printed leaf, Luc’Antonio Giunta, Angelici Doctoris divi Thomas Aquinatis., Venice, [1547]. 8 x 10.75". (BW) From the Third Part of the Works of the divine theologian Thomas Aquinas, with Commentaries, prepared by the Renaissance scholar Cardinal Thomas de Vio Gaitani. (A+) $50

372. Printed leaves, Luc’Antonio Guinta, Opuscula questiones et quolibeta…, Venice, [1547]. 8.5 x 12.5". (BW) Nice pair of leaves from this work of commentary on the work of the great 13th century theologian, Thomas Aquinas, concerning the teachings of the Roman Church in this era of the Protestant Reformation. Woodcut initials on each. (A+) $ 90

373. Printed leaves, Luc’Anonio Guinta, Angelici Doctoris divi Thomas Aquinatis., Venice, [1547]. 9 x 12.5". (BW) Excellent pair of pages from this volume of the work of the 13th century theologian which was prepared by the Renaissance scholar, Cardinal Thomas de Vio Gaitani. His commentary appears in smaller type surrounding the text of Aquinas, which is rendered in the traditional larger black letter type. Woodcut initials on each. (A+) $ 90

374. Printed leaf (Liber V), Sebastain Munster, Cosmographis Universalis, Basle, [1568]. 8 x 11.7". (BW) Fine page with two woodblock illustrations; two women farming, and the tower of Babylon under construction. Couple of worm tracks in margins. (A) $ 60

375. Calligraphy (To Zachary Chambers), George Brickman’s Universal Penman , [1741]. 8 x 13". (BW) Signed by George Bickham and written in praise of Mr. Chamber’s "Excellent Performances in Penmanship." An extremely fine example of calligraphy. (A+) $ 60

376. Calligraphy (To a Worthy Patriot) George Brickman’s Universal Penman , 1740. 8 x 13". (BW). This is a letter of praise …"Zeal for the Publick Good is the Characteristick of a Man of Honour…" and signed The Guardian. (A+) $ 50

377. Indenture, 1789. 13.5 x 8". Will and Testament for a William Forster in the city of Durham. Two small holes, affecting one line of text. Very legible. (B) $ 80

378. Indenture, 1793. 13.7 x 7.7". Vellum document concerning transfer of land in Northcumberland, England. Complete with tax stamp. Folded. Two tiny holes in margin. (A) $ 90

379. Indenture, 1807. 23 x 16.7". Large vellum document complete with 3 tax stamps and 4 red wax seals. The document is for the sale of a house in Sunderland, England. Three of the four signatures are by an "X". Would be great framed. Minor light foxing. (A) $ 120

380. Civil War Document (Muster Roll), 1864. 30 x 21". Fascinating information concerning the soldiers of a unit in the field before Petersburg, VA, the last major campaign of the Civil War. Detailed listing of 83 soldiers, some POW, sick, deserted or killed. Folded, toned with a couple of light spots, very legible.   A terrific piece filled with handwriting in black ink.  (A) $ 150

383. Bonds (Lot of 50), ca. 1950. Great set of 50 different stock and bond certificates (US) dated from 1912 to 1983, most in the 50’s and 60’s. Nice examples of fine engraving. (A) $ 125
