23. Western Hemisphere (Americae Mappa Generalis …), Homann Heirs, Nuremberg, 1746. 20.5 x 18". (FC) Very decorative 18th century map of the Americas. Considerable detail even in the interiors. There is no coast above California. Exceptionally large pictorial cartouche, in full color. Map has been professionally restored to repair marginal defects and centerfold. One light spot in the southern Atlantic Ocean. Even with these minor defects it is a very good example of this desirable map. (B)  $800-900 [Click here to view image]

24. Western Hemisphere (A new Projection of the Western Hemisphere of the Earth on a Plane shewing the proportions of its several parts…), J. Hardy, Gentleman’s Magazine, London, 1776. 9 x 9.3". (BW) Interesting projection by a mathematics teacher at Eaton College. Shows the colonies, and an early and vague outline of Alaska and the Aleutians. The projection leaves triangular openings at the equator, much like gores unattached to the sphere. Hardy has filled these voids with the charts of the Bahaman Islands and the Caribbean Islands at either side. Ref: GENT-244. Complete with the original April, 1776 Gentleman’s Magazine. (A) $125

25. Western Hemisphere (L’America Secondo le Ultime Osservazioni Divisa ne’suoi Stati Principali), Cassini, Rome, 1825. 13 x 18.2". (OC) Scarce map of the Americas & the Pacific showing the tracts of Capt. Cook with the discovery of New Zealand, Hawaii, and Alaska. Large pictorial cartouche. Later, pale coloring with some bleed through. (B) $350  [Click here to view image]
