468. Printed leaf (Untitled), Conrad Winters de Hoemborch, Mammotractus Super Bibliam, Cologne, Germany, [1476]. 8 x 10.5". Beautiful leaf on a fine sheet of hand-laid paper. 40 line double column Latin text, in a Gothic-Antiqua typeface with hand-painted red initials and underlining. From an early edition of commentary upon Sacred Scriptures. (A+)$100469. Printed leaf (LXXXIX), Guillaume Durand, Nuremberg, [1481]. 8 x 11.5". This leaf is from the French canonist considered to be one of the great authorities on Western liturgy and Christian ritual. This Incunabula period edition is distinguished by exuberant use of hand-colored (red) rubication. Stain in margin, well away from printing. (A) $75

472. Printed leaf (Folio CCCCCLXXV), Nicolas de Benedictis, Decretum Aureum, Lyon, [1511]. 5.5 x 8". Original leaf from a religious book containing Canonical regulation. Printed in black and red on both sides. (A+) $40
473. Printed leaf (Folio CCC), Francois Renault, Codes Iustinianus ad vetustorum Exemplarum Recognitus (The Code of Justinian, According to the Ancient Authorities), Paris, [1532]. 5.5 x 7.5". A handsome printed leaf from the great legal code of A.D. 529, which standardized and corrected the confusing welter of laws that had accumulated during a thousand years of Roman tradition. The influential work was accomplished under the patronage of Byzantine Emperor Justinian, whose name it bears, and it formed the basis for succeeding European and modern common law. This edition is a fine example of the new technology of two color (black and red) printing, which rapidly replaced the hand-lettered red titles and initials of the earliest printed books. Age toned with some very old manuscript underlining in part of the text. (A) $40
474. Printed leaf (Folio CXXXVI), Francois de Fradin, Bonifaces Liber Sex Decretalium, Paris, [1537]. 11.5 x 16.2". Scarce, large printed leaf. Latin text, printed in red and black, containing the major decrees of Pope Boniface VIII (1294-1303) in which the Pontiff greatly expanded the temporal powers of the Holy See, demanded absolute authority over the Christian monarchs of Europe, and dramatically increased his familys land holdings. He was eventually arrested for heresy and died under house arrest in the Vatican. Very clean and bright with some old manuscript notations in the margin. (A) $60
475. Printed leaf (Domini Guidonis Papae), George Corvinus, Consiliorum D. Guidonis Papae Doctoris, Frankfort, Germany, [1574]. 8 x 11.7". Original leaf from a dissertation on Canon and civil law, in which cases are discussed in a wide variety of areas. Roman Letter Latin text in double columns, fine historiated initial letters in the style made popular in Germany by Holbein and Durer earlier in the century. (A) $50
476. Printed leaves (Lot of 3 leaves), John Foxe, Actes and Monuments of the Martyrs, London, [1576]. 8.2 x 12". Three nice leaves, one including a large (7 x 5.5") woodblock illustration of a religious procession with the Pope being carried by the King and Emperor. Known popularly as the Book of Martyrs, this anti-Catholic diatribe vividly chronicles the sufferings of Protestant martyrs at the hand of the Roman Church authorities. This English translation became the first "best-selling" book in the English language, going through numerous editions in the Elizabethan era. Toned with minor foxing. (B) $75
477. Printed leaves (lot of 4 leaves), London, [1576-99]. Four leaves from English works including The Holie Bible (Barker 1599), Generale Chronicle of England (Barker 1592), Stephen Batmans The Doome, Warning to the Judgement (1581) and Foxes Actes and Monuments of Martyrs (1576). Nice example of early English printing. Toned with some minor foxing. (B) $60
478. Printed leaves (Pair of leaves), Gregory XIII, Pontificale Romanum ad Omnes Pontificales Ceremonias (All the Rites of the Roman Pontificate), Venice, [1582]. 10 x 14.5". Roman letter Latin text arranged in double columns within printed rules. Printed in red and black inks. The work was printed by the highly regarded printing house of Giunta which was founded in Venice in 1482 by patriarch Lucantonio, called "the Copyphaeur", or leader of printers. After his death in 1537, his descendants in Italy, France, and Spain carried on the business well into the seventeenth century . A fine pair of printed leaves. (A+) $75
479. Indenture. 1785. 32 x 25". Large sheet of vellum in full manuscript with striking calligraphy, including a royal crest in the upper corner. The document is a land transfer in Branston, England between John Bowers and Robert Marlboro. Folded and complete with seals. (A) $175
480. Indenture. 1790. 19 x 11.5". From the Manor of Kings Cliffe in the County of Northampton. This appears to be a lease of some land or transfer of farming rights between a George Richardson and Richardson DKippe. One tax stamp on vellum. Very legible with only light foxing. Pressed and ready for framing. (A) $175
481. Indenture. 1781. 15.7 x 11.7". Also from the Manor of Kings Cliffe. This is a transfer of land rights from parents to a son on his intended marriage. One tax stamp on vellum with writing on both sides. Nicely pressed and ready for framing. (A) $150
482. Legal Document. 1801. 19.5 x 14.7". Last Will and Testament of William Read Hardy. On vellum with four tax stamps. Very light foxing on verso with very legible writing, pressed. (A) $125
483. Stock certificates (Lot of 3 Railroad stock certificates), [1945-66]. Three very nice large denomination ($1000) certificates, all with lovely engraved vignettes of trains, steamboats and deer. Includes the Reading Co., West Shore Railroad, and Mohawk and Malone Railway Co. All issued. (A) $60
484. Stock certificates (lot of 7 Railroad stock certificates), [1946-67].. Seven different stock certificates, all with decorative vignettes. Includes The Mahoning Coal Railroad Co. (1946), Boston and Albany Rail Road Co. (1951), Reading Co. (1966), Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Rail Road Co. (1956), The New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad Co. (1960), The Pennsylvania Railroad Co. (1967), and Erie-Lackwanna Railroad Co (1967). All issued with appropriate stamps. (A) $50
